Tower crane used in the whole world were first started to be used in Turkey towards the end of the 70¡¯s in Istanbul.

Turkey¡¯s first tall building is in Ankara and built in 1965. It is a 24-storey 76m high building (The Red Crescent building). Istanbul¡¯s first skyscraper is in Zincirlikuyu area.
The increasing need for housing in the 1990s with the onset of multi-storey buildings and skyscrapers and tower cranes began to apear frequently in the construction field.A 52 storey building which used to take 5 years to be completed in the past, started to be finished in a year time with the great help of tower cranes.
Contractors nowadays do not start a building without a tower crane for the sake of time saving ans show off.
European and American major producers of small cranes and machinery group, prefer the production of profitable tower cranes and leave the other machinery prodcution to the developing countries. When we realise tha the leading sector of economy of developing countries is Construction and the leading main stone of the construction industry is tower crane we can understand what kind of a big market these companies hold in their hands.

Supply could not meet the demand in 2007 and the tower cranes were exposed to Black Market. Housing Development Administration of Turkey demanded for the 10 years and older cranes to be set free in terms of import.
